Breathe yourself young

For breath is life, and if you breathe well you will live long on earth.  ~Sanskrit Proverb

Yes it is possible to breathe yourself younger!!! Stress and sleep deprivation increase the oxidative process in the body.  You may notice people who sleep like a baby always seem to have lovely skin and you may have noticed that when you have a rough night, your skin looks grey, dry and 1o years older.

As we age, we dry out and our body decays, a bit like when you cut an apple in half it starts going brown, well that is what is happening continuously to our body.  It’s called oxidation!!  Urrgh, not nice, but unfortunately it’s inevitable.

However, the good news is that we can slow the process down by eating food high in antioxidants such as wheatgrass, cranberries and blueberries. We can also learn to breathe as a natural sleep remedy!!!

It seems simple and you may think that you are breathing, but you probably aren’t!! Unfortunately in the west, most people don’t know how to breathe properly and are missing out on all the proven amazing benefits of yogic and healthy breathing.

One particular piece of research I would like to share with you looks into the effects of yogic breathing on oxidative stress.  In this study, a group of volunteers were split into two groups, one group were given certain yogic breathing exercises to do while the other half just carried on as normal.   They measured the level of free radicals before the study and again after, and it showed that free radicals decreased significantly in the group who did the breathing against the group that did not.

With some very simple breath techniques you can eliminate stress, sleep better, aid digestion and reduce free radicals… not bad eh!!! The breath is without doubt the most powerful healing tool to the human being, we just have to use it!!!!

Breathe, breathe, breathe!!!

Love

Anandi!
